Local Roofing Professionals Advise Against Out of Town Contractors

In 2016 Colorado Springs saw one of its most expensive years for hailstorm damage at a whopping $352 Million in insurance claims. In 2013 there were 16,000 hail and wind damage claims in Denver alone.

Like many other Colorado residents, homeowners will replace their roof for the third time in more than 20 years. For them, hiring a local roofer is important. You don’t want to hire someone from out of town – a fly-by-night company. If you have a problem who are you going to contact once they are gone?

RJ Rodriguez a Denver roofing consultant has worked with homeowners who are now having to find a local roofer to fix a problem left by an out of town company that didn’t do the job right the first time.

After a major storm their are a lot of companies from out of town who converge on a neighborhood or area after a storm. The out of town companies are usually the first ones canvassing the neighborhood and knocking on doors because they don’t have a business in the area. They are just trying to get business and take advantage of the storm.

Some disadvantages to working with an out of town roofing company is that you don’t know what types of materials they will be using or the skills/experience of the workforce they are using.

One resident of Denver received more than 300 calls after a major storm passed through his neighborhood. These storm chasers are here today and then gone tomorrow while leaving the homeowner with little to do if they have any problems after the roof replacement.

RJ has found that following one of these “Storm Chaser” events he gets a deluge of calls from unhappy homeowners that can’t find the contractor who re-roofed their home. The lesson is to always find out before hiring a contractor if they are insured by the city, are licensed and bonded.
